OAKLAND – Oakland A’s reliever Trevor May opened up Sunday about the anxiety issues he’s faced this season and at times throughout his career, saying it’s only recently that he’s been better able to recognize symptoms and deal with his mental health struggles in a more positive fashion.May, in his first public comments since he went on the injured list on April 19 for anxiety, said the decision to step away from the team less than two weeks was a necessary one, both for himself and everyone around him.“I think I know enough about myself that if I’m feeling a certain way, I’m going to bring it into this clubhouse with me and that’s the last thing,” I want, May said before the A’s played the Cincinnati Reds in the three-game series finale.“There’s enough on these guys’ plate. They don’t need me being a storm cloud walking around, and I definitely don’t want to have it at home with me. So, it was just in everyone’s...

McGlaughlin nabs IndyCar win at Barber over Grosjean

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Scott McLaughlin finally got an opening to surge past Romain Grosjean, took advantage of it and was scarcely challenged the rest of the way to his fourth IndyCar win on Sunday at Barber Motorsports Park. It was the second time this season they’ve battled for a potential win, but this time McLaughlin and Grosjean avoided getting tangled up in the process. McLaughlin, from New Zealand, wound up with Team Penske’s seventh win in 13 races at the permanent road course — and his first since breaking out with three victories last season.“It’s been coming. We’ve been close,” McLaughlin said. Grosjean had been furious with McLaughlin when the two touched heading into a corner at the opening race in St. Petersburg, Florida, both slamming into a tire barrier. McLaughlin drew an avoidable contact penalty. McLaughlin said “there’s no hard feelings” between the two. This time, it was clean racing for the win.Grosjean started on the pole for the secon...

CLEVELAND, Texas (AP) — A widening manhunt for a Texas gunman who killed five neighbors continued turning up nothing Sunday as officers knocked on doors, the governor put up $50,000 in reward money and the FBI acknowledged they had “zero leads” after nearly two days of searching.“What we need from the public is any type of information, because right now we’re just we’re running into dead ends,” James Smith, the FBI's special agent in charge, said during an afternoon news conference. “I can tell you right now, we have zero leads.”The search for the suspect has grown in scale since the Friday shooting, with more than 200 police from multiple jurisdictions searching for Francisco Oropeza, many going door to door, looking for the 38-year-old suspect and asking for tips. Local officials and the FBI also chipped in reward money, bringing the total to $80,000 for any information about Oropeza's whereabouts. No. 3 House Republican defends party’s debt ceiling bill

Published Tue, 25 Feb 2025 14:11:38 GMT

(CNN) — House Majority Whip Tom Emmer said Sunday that President Joe Biden “doesn’t have to negotiate” over the debt ceiling, saying that “Republicans in the House, led by Kevin McCarthy, have passed the solution.”House Republicans last week narrowly passed their bill to raise the nation’s $31.4 trillion debt limit by an additional $1.5 trillion. But the measure faces nearly impossible odds of passing in the Democratic-led Senate. Emmer disagreed with that contention in an interview with CNN’s Dana Bash on “State of the Union.”“To say that it’s dead on arrival in the Senate, when you’ve got even Joe Manchin suggesting support for this type of approach, I think that’s not exactly accurate,” the Minnesota Republican said. “If you don’t like something in it, if you have ideas of your own, our speaker is more than willing, I’m sure, to listen to those.”The House GOP measure ...
