Broncos mailbag: Should Denver be interested in Austin Ekeler? And what’s up at center?

Broncos mailbag: Should Denver be interested in Austin Ekeler? And what’s up at center? Denver Post Broncos writer Parker Gabriel posts his Broncos Mailbag periodically during the offseason. Click here to submit a question. With the contractual drama between former Western Colorado Mountaineer, Austin Ekeler, and the San Diego Chargers, what are the chances that the Broncos bid high for his services in 2024? From Marshall Faulk and Tiki Barber to Darren Sproles and Alvin Kamara, I think Ekeler fits the perfect mold for a Sean Payton type of RB. He’s arguably responsible for the evolution of the dual threat RB.— Jamal Rucker, Portsmouth, Va.Hey Jamal, thanks for writing in.First, you’re on the right track in terms of 2024 as the timing element for this question. Ekeler has made it pretty clear he wants a raise, a trade or both. At this point, what incentive does Los Angeles have to move him? Even if they do end up trading him, it probably won’t be to a draft capital-poor division rival. Now, 2024? Never say never. That’s a long way away in football timing. Cap...

Broncos draft preview: Starting-caliber RBs are regularly found on Day 3. Can Denver nab one? Editor’s note: Second of a series of NFL draft previews as it relates to the Broncos. Monday: Quarterbacks. Today: Running backs.Broncos’ in-house offseason moves: Signed Samaje Prine (two years, $7.5 million) and Tony Jones Jr. (one year).Under contract: Javonte Williams (two years), Perine (two years), Jones Jr. (one year), Tyler Badie (one year), Damarea Crockett (one year), Tyreik McAllister (one year).Need scale (1-10): 6. The Broncos have been active in free agency, but the roster numbers are still a bit deceiving. Williams (knee) is no sure bet to be back by Week 1. Badie flashed late in the year, but there aren’t many sure bets beyond Perine. Starting-caliber players can be found on Day 3 at running back, and the Broncos would do well to find one in 2023 or, at the latest, 2024.Top Five1. Bijan Robinson, Texas: Universally regarded among the most talented players in the draft and almost a sure bet to be the first back off the board. He’s been a highlight reel machine s...

Broomfield, Rocky Mountain, Legacy remain usual suspects in expanded Front Range League baseball The expanded Front Range League looks a little different this spring, but it’s the same teams who are dominating on the diamond.Broomfield, the defending Class 5A state champion, is currently the state’s No. 2-ranked team. No. 1 Rocky Mountain – owners of six state titles like the Eagles – and No. 9 Legacy (2022 runner-up) are also showing early promise.Coming out of last season’s all-Front Range League 5A final, the three schools are the favorites in the new-look league that added four schools this season in Erie, Prairie View, Northglenn and Brighton.“To finish at or near the top of our league, you’re going to be battle-tested just like a lot of those leagues down south in the suburbs,” Broomfield coach Kale Gilmore said. “Rocky Mountain looks like they’re back to who they usually are; Legacy’s going to be tough again, Fossil Ridge is going to be tough. There’s a lot of good teams, plus we added to the depth o...

California reminder: Tax filing deadline, for most, shifts to October Just eight days remain until the traditional tax filing deadline, but most Californians can take a breather and wait it out. Why? Storms, wildfires and flood damage late last year and into early 2023 extended the tax filing deadlines for most Californians. The new deadline of Oct. 16 applies to California and federal individual and business tax returns and payments. The Franchise Tax Board said taxpayers who suffered financial losses to storm damage are eligible to claim those losses on their tax returns. The IRS said the extension includes most 2022 individual and business returns originally due April 18. Other business returns, normally due on March 15 and April 18, and returns of tax-exempt organizations typically due on May 15, also were extended.Related ArticlesBusiness | IRS vows to audit more wealthy folks, provide better service Business | Letters: Homeless sweep | Others’ money | UC fixes | Letter misleads | Climate change aid Business | ...
