BERKELEY — Authorities released video Friday of a Nov. 6 police shooting of a man who allegedly rammed a police car with a stolen vehicle and then drove onto a sidewalk — toward officers and at least one suspect — in an attempt to escape.Police have not released the name of the officer who fired. The man killed has since been identified as David Bonino, 39.Officers had been dispatched to the area of 7th and Grayson streets about 5:25 a.m. Nov. 6 for a report of three people breaking into vehicles. One suspect was detained at the scene, but Bonino, who was driving, and a woman fled in what turned out to be a stolen Ford Expedition. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle and blocked off the roadway as it headed into the surrounding streets. At one point in the video, the Expedition reappears on Grayson; it heads toward the blocked vehicle, reverses into a police vehicle that has approached from the rear, then swerves right onto a sidewalk occupied by two police officers, the suspe...6 French teens convicted for role in deadly attack on teacher

By Angela Charlton | Associated PressPARIS — A French juvenile court on Friday convicted six teenagers for their roles in the beheading of a teacher by an Islamic extremist that shocked the country.Teacher Samuel Paty was killed outside his school in 2020 after showing his class cartoons of the prophet of Islam during a debate on free expression. The attacker, a young Chechen who had radicalized, was killed by police. The court found five of the defendants, who were 14 and 15 at the time of the attack, guilty of staking out the teacher and identifying him for the attacker. Another defendant, 13 at the time, was found guilty of lying about the classroom debate in a comment that aggravated online anger against the teacher. The teenagers — all students at Paty’s school — testified that they didn’t know the teacher would be killed. All were handed brief or suspended prison terms, and required to stay in school or jobs during the duration of their suspended terms with regular m...Three Bay Area Norteños, including justice reform activist, sentenced for gang-related murders

SAN FRANCISCO — A federal judge has handed down decades-long prison terms against three members of a Norteño subset, ending a case that revealed the double life of a young man who billed himself as a beacon for positive change as he plotted and carried out gang killings.Fernando Madrigal, 25, was sentenced Thursday to 33 years in prison for involvement in two murders, including a 15-year-old boy shot for nothing more than perceived gang membership, and a relative of Madrigal’s by marriage whose body was dumped in the Oakland hills. Madrigal, a justice reform advocate until his arrest in August 2020, hugged the 15-year-old boy’s mother at an anti-violence rally just weeks after killing him, an act prosecutors highlighted as an example of Madrigal’s ability to simply move on after committing heinous acts. Two others, Alvaro “G-Boy” Reina-Cordero, and Oscar “Cutty” Guadron-Diaz, 24, were sentenced to 26 and 21 years respectively for involv...Court upholds most of Trump gag order in election subversion case

By Katelyn Polantz, Holmes Lybrand and Paulu Reid | CNNAn appeals court has largely upheld the gag order against former President Donald Trump in the federal election subversion case, saying he can be barred from talking about witnesses as well as prosecutors, the court staff and their family members. But the court said the gag order does not apply to comments made about special counsel Jack Smith, a change from the original gag order. It is the second time in recent weeks appeals courts have found reason to limit what Trump could say publicly if it could amount to harassment; he has also been barred from attacking a court staff in New York as he and his company are in a civil fraud damages trial. It is still possible for Trump to seek further appeals, even at the Supreme Court, on the gag order in the 2020 election federal criminal case. Separately, he has attempted to use various appeals to delay the March trial, with no success yet.Friday’s lengthy opinion came from all three judges...Gang in ski masks target Keanu Reeves in latest celebrity home burglary

It seems shocking to read that Keanu Reeves, with access to the best security a rich movie star can buy, would still find his home being invaded by burglars. But early Thursday, the “John Wick” star became the latest celebrity whose Los Angeles-area home has been hit by a gang of burglars. Every few months over the past six or seven years, some celebrity is in the news because their home has been broken into, with thieves making off with up to millions in jewels, artwork, clothing and other luxury goods.Reeves was not home when masked burglars broke into his Hollywood Hills property and fled with a firearm, TMZ reported. The Los Angeles Police Department first responded to an anonymous call about a possible trespasser at the “Matrix” star’s property around 7 p.m. Wednesday, but found no one there, law enforcement sources told TMZ.Officers headed back to Reeves’ home some five hours later when an alarm started blaring at 1 a.m. Thursday, TMZ reported. This time, poli...Have SF Giants come up short in Ohtani sweepstakes? Conflicting reports that a deal is in place
