Ask Amy: My boyfriend said I’m trying to start a fight about my birthday Dear Amy: My boyfriend of four years (we live together) doesn’t know when my birthday is and can’t understand why he should even care about it. He quips, “Sometimes I don’t even know my own birthday.”When I said I thought it was strange that he didn’t care to know my birthdate, he accused me of “trying to start a fight.”It seems that if it isn’t about him, he isn’t interested.Am I being too sensitive? In the DarkDear In the Dark: I have often remarked on how important I believe birthdays to be, because this is a day when others are invited to acknowledge and celebrate your very existence. In balanced relationships, partners actually look for opportunities to celebrate one another, because (selfishly speaking) it feels good!Yes, I agree that it is “strange” that your guy doesn’t claim to even want to know the date of your birth (this can be vital information that he might need to supply in case of an emergency).Dear Amy: Our ...

Harriette Cole: I’ve had a privileged life, and the class assignment calls for hardship

Harriette Cole: I’ve had a privileged life, and the class assignment calls for hardship DEAR HARRIETTE: I am a first-year undergrad student, and I’m lucky to have lived a relatively privileged life with little difficulty or challenge. For one of my elective courses, we are required to write a story about a hardship we have had to overcome and share it with the class. While I appreciate this type of personal writing assignment, I have never experienced a great difficulty that would merit such a story. My classmates’ stories have been difficult to hear. Many of them are much more mature and experienced in life than I am, and they have dealt with some truly devastating circumstances.I don’t feel comfortable making up a hardship, so I don’t know what to do. I would like to avoid looking insensitive, but at the same time, I feel like a fraud writing a story I can’t really relate to.Related ArticlesAdvice | Harriette Cole: I’m terrified of seeing my brother because of his dogs Advice | Harriette Cole: I never asked ...

Tennessee man breaks record with 149-pound paddlefish catch KINGSTON, Tenn. (WSVN) — A Tennessee man has made a massive catch, reeling in a 149-pound paddlefish earlier this month, and setting a new record for the largest fish ever caught in the state. But now, this angler’s feat has surpassed it, making it the largest fish of any species ever caught in the state.Tennessee wildlife officials have confirmed the catch, which was caught by Henry Dyer on April 13 at Cherokee Reservoir in upper East Tennessee.Paddlefish are known for their unique features, including their long snouts and cartilage skeletons. They can grow to be about 7.2 feet long and reach 200 pounds.Dyer said he spent over about 35 minutes battling the massive fish before finally getting it on his boat. The catch has earned him a well-deserved spot in the record books and is sure to be the talk of fishing communities for years to come. This im...

UK warns Russian-aligned cyber groups targeting infrastructure across the West LONDON — The United Kingdom issued a warning on Wednesday that cyber groups affiliated with Russia were targeting critical infrastructure within the country and across the West. The warning marks the latest escalation between the Kremlin and Western capitals more than a year after Moscow invaded Ukraine. So far, such cyberattacks have primarily focused on Ukrainian infrastructure, though Western officials have repeatedly warned that similar attacks could expand outside the Eastern European country.“It has become clear that certain state-aligned groups have the intent to cause damage to critical national infrastructure organizations, and it is important that the sector is aware of this,” Marsha Quallo-Wright, director for critical national infrastructure at the U.K.’s National Cyber Security Center, said in a statement. Currently, these attacks have focused primarily on websites from government agencies and companies. But Oliver Dowden, Secretary of State in the U.K.’s Cab...
