LOUIS – Five days ago, inmates at the St. Louis City Justice Center allegedly beat a guard in his 70s and held him hostage.In an exclusive interview, one of the men charged in the attack spoke with FOX 2 through his fiancé via Zoom, as the case is still under investigation.Morgan Bankhead is Anthony Newberry’s fiancé. She also says she is a former correctional officer at the Justice Center. Alleged knife-wielding man fatally shot by police officers in Northridge A man allegedly armed with a knife was shot and killed by officers in Northridge on Sunday.The incident occurred around 11:15 a.m. as officers were talking to the man by an apartment in the area of Malden Street and Canby Avenue, the Los Angeles Police Department posted in a series of tweets.As they were talking, the man armed himself with a knife and charged at officers, police said."At that point, an Officer-Involved Shooting occurred and the suspect was struck by the gunfire," one of the tweets read. Officers rendered first aid but the man, said to be in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene. The district said Sunday smoke from numerous fires in Northern California and Oregon is expected to impact air quality throughout the Bay Area through Monday, causing air quality to reach low-moderate on the U.S. EPA's Air Quality Index. Nordstrom in downtown SF officially closes after more than 30 years on Market Street Smoky, hazy skies may be visible and the smell of smoke is possible. The district said in a statement that pollutant levels are not expected to exceed the national 24-hour health standard and there is no Spare the Air Alert in effect.
