AUSTIN (KXAN) — As Austin's Project Connect light rail program gears up for its federal funding and environmental processes, area transit leaders gathered Sunday to reflect on the past year of transportation developments.Voters approved the multi-billion-dollar Project Connect program in November 2020, with one of its primary appeals being its light rail system. After nearly a year's worth of route reviews, scope scale backs and public feedback, the City of Austin, Austin Transit Partnership (ATP) and CapMetro adopted phase one of light rail plans in June. RELATED: What does the next year look like for Project Connect’s light rail development? On Sunday, transportation nonprofit Transit Forward and urbanist organization AURA hosted an event to reflect on the past year of mass transit developments. At that press conference, Austin Mayor Kirk Watson said the path toward light rail has been one decades in the making, highlighting a first — and failed — ballot initiative to approve it...AP Top 25: Texas stays at No. 3, Kansas moves into poll ahead of DKR visit

Credit the Vikings for getting the big stop when they needed it on Sunday afternoon at U.S. Bank Stadium. After getting pulverized by star quarterback Justin Herbert and the Los Angeles Chargers all day long, the defense stepped up and forced a turnover on downs in the final minutes of the game. That group did its job when it needed to.That gave quarterback Kirk Cousins and the offense the ball with a chance to win the game. They couldn’t do it.After converting for a crucial first down in the final seconds, Cousins tried to fit a ball into tight end T.J. Hockenson in the Chargers’ end zone. It got tipped into the air, and of course, intercepted as the Vikings suffered a heartbreaking 28-24 loss to the Chargers. They are now 0-3, with each of those losses coming in games decided by a single possession. On their opening drive of the game, the Vikings pounded the rock with Mattison five straight times, committing to the run game like they promised they would. Offense — DThe offense did some good things, particularly early in the game after a three-and-out to start. But the Broncos still had as many turnovers (three) as they did scores. They went 1-of-3 in the red zone. They had touchdowns wiped off the board on the two field goal drives by penalties on Brandon Johnson — iffy ones, but penalties nonetheless. They had two first downs running the ball well into the fourth quarter. They crested 300-plus yards, but that wasn’t nearly enough on this day. Denver will look at the film and see some positives — Can Marvin Mims, Jr. be a featured player in this offense yet? — and plenty of corrections to be made. But all of that likely would have been academic after the opening minutes in South Florida anyway.Defense — FIf F- existed, that would be the grade. The Dolphins scored 10 touchdowns. Tua Tagovailoa completed his first 17 passes. The Dolphins only broke away from slicing and dicing Denver’s secondary to run roughshod on the ground. T...Heroes and Zeros from Broncos’ historic loss to Miami Dolphins: At least Marvin Mims Jr. showed up to play

Here are the heroes and zeros from the Broncos’ historic 70-20 loss to the Miami Dolphins at Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday afternoon.HeroesRussell WilsonWilson was the least of Denver’s problems. He completed 23 of 38 passes for 306 yards, a touchdown and an interception. He was dealing on the Broncos’ second drive of the game, completing four passes for 10-plus yards, including a 12-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Courtland Sutton. Wilson’s only blunder came late in the third quarter when his pass was tipped, then intercepted by linebacker Emmanuel Ogbah. He couldn’t help that two touchdown passes were called back because of penalties or the defense looking like a junior varsity team.Marvin Mims Jr.Broncos rookie Marvin Mims Jr. might be special. Since last week, Mims has done nothing but make plays. Against the Commanders, he had 113 receiving yards and a 60-yard touchdown reception. In the loss to the Dolphins, Mims made a 38-yard reception in the second quarter and scor...Englewood Landry’s employee sues national chain for discrimination, alleges retaliation

An employee at the now-closed Englewood location of Landry’s Seafood House is suing the national restaurant chain for discrimination, bias and retaliation.According to a Friday news release from the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Iranian employee claimed that she was harassed for her national origin and, when she filed discrimination complaints, the company retaliated by firing her.“Retaliation for raising discrimination complaints is too common in the workplace,” EEOC Regional Attorney Mary Jo O’Neill stated in the release. “Over 50% of all EEOC charges involve retaliation complaints.”Other Landry’s employees, including managers and supervisors, would regularly mock the employee’s accent and appearance, and treat her differently than non-Iranian employees in “ways that negatively impacted her and her pay,” the lawsuit alleged. The lawsuit was filed by the EEOC in the U.S. District Court for the District of Colo...Broncos four downs: Worst coaching job in NFL history? Sean Payton, that now belongs to you.

Initial thoughts from Broncos’ 70-20 loss to the Miami Dolphins in Week 3 at Hard Rock Stadium:VJ or JV?: Things are about to get really uncomfortable for Vance Joseph at Dove Valley. Granted, the Dolphins have the best, most explosive offense in the NFL, and VJ was missing All-Pro safety Justin Simmons. But that doesn’t excuse the Broncos defense looking like the JV in South Beach. It took all of two series for Denver to scrap its two-linemen, five-linebacker pregame adjustment. Going zone on Tyreek Hill when you have a shutdown cornerback like Pat Surtain II? Not great. Getting clowned with a no-look shovel pass for TD No. 3? Even worse.Sweet Vic-tory: Was Vic Fangio cackling in the Dolphins coaches’ booth? Howling? Shooting milk through his nose? All of the above? Whatever the case, it had to be satisfying for the ex-Broncos head coach-turned-Miami defensive coordinator to see the mess his once-formidable Denver defense has become. The Dolphins didn’t punt until...Latest news
