Southern Californians can expect a rainy week as they prepare for Christmas.Two storms are headed to the area, first a weaker system expected to arrive overnight Monday and then the second Tuesday night.While the first storm is expected to bring "light rain" to most areas, the second "looks more impactful and has the potential to bring more significant flood-related impacts to the area with moderate to heavy rain, possible thunderstorms, and gusty southeast winds," the National Weather Service said. Associated PressBEIJING — At least 111 people were killed in a magnitude 6.2 earthquake in a cold and mountainous region in northwestern China, the country’s state media reported on Tuesday.Search and rescue operations were underway in Gansu province and neighboring Qinghai province. The earthquake left more than 230 people injured, damaged houses and roads, and knocked out power and communication lines, according to the media reports.State broadcaster CCTV said that 100 people died in the province of Gansu and another 11 in the neighboring province of Qinghai in the quake, which struck at a depth of 10 kilometers (six miles) just before midnight on Monday.The quake struck in Gansu’s Jishishan county, about 5 kilometers (3 miles) from the provincial boundary with Qinghai. (KRON) -- More than 18,000 PG&E customers in the South Bay lost power on Monday afternoon, according to PG&E's outage map. The outage has since been restored. The large outage stretched as far north as San Jose State University, south to the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds and west to the Willow Glen neighborhood, per PG&E. The number of customers affected was 18,404. Bay Area rain totals: Storm expected to hit in waves Power was knocked out in this area at 1:02 p.m. PG&E said it was restored by 4:04 p.m. The issue was equipment failure at a San Jose substation. It’s toy-buying season, and internet-connected toys are on a lot of kids’ lists. But there’s growing concern about how much data those toys are collecting.Donna Wertalik, a professor at Virginia Tech’s department of marketing, told WTOP that smart toys are typically equipped with a camera or microphone and have Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connection.“Parents really need to check when it says [a toy] is compatible with an online platform or program,” she said. “What does that mean? Is there a privacy policy for the child? Where is the data being sent?”Wertalik said it’s not about “freaking parents out,” but rather encouraging them to be vigilant and aware about how tech toys collect data and how that data is being utilized.She said parents should check the back of a toy box or the toy maker’s website for the privacy policy and see how they can opt out of data collection. Vanessa Rubio, an elected official in D.C. who serves as an Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner, voted twice in the 2020 general election, according to an investigation carried out by the D.C. Board of Elections.Rubio was fined $500 and will need to pay it by Jan. 8.“We also take judicial notice of the fact that Ms. Rubio is an elected official,” the board said in a statement. “We see fit to hold her to a higher standard than other voters.”According to the board, evidence showed that a ballot was issued by Maryland elections officials to Rubio in 2020.Additionally, Rubio was issued a ballot by the D.C. DENVER (KDVR) — A man from Denver risked his life to save his 2-year-old daughter from getting hit by an oncoming driver.The family of Alonso Garcia says he pushed his daughter out of the way before he was hit.
