AMSTERDAM, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A 24-year-old male is facing charges following an investigation into drug activity in Amsterdam. Jesus M. Ortiz was taken into custody by the Amsterdam City Police on Thursday and was arraigned in the Amsterdam City Court. The arrest was made when a detective observed a vehicle that had been frequenting the area commit a vehicle and traffic law violation. Police conducted a traffic stop and interviewed the occupants. Ortiz was found to have a quantity of crack cocaine and powder cocaine, U.S. currency, and drug paraphernalia, including a digital scale and plastic bags.Ortiz was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree and criminally using drug paraphernalia in the second degree. PITTSFIELD, Mass. (NEWS10) -- The Pittsfield Fire Department responded to a structure fire on Cromwell Avenue on Thursday afternoon. Crews arrived on the scene to find a well-developed, fast-moving fire. Get the latest news, weather, sports and entertainment delivered right to your inbox! Multiple trucks and engines were called to the residence. Crews managed to get the fire under control in two hours. No firefighters were reported injured.Investigations determined that the owner was the only occupant at home at the time of the fire. She was treated and transported to the Berkshire Medical Center for smoke inhalation. The residence is estimated to be a near-total loss. The owner's family has been displaced and is receiving assistance from the American Red Cross. KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A Northland man accused of shooting a teenager who went to the wrong address is now demanding a jury trial. Andrew Lester is facing first-degree assault and armed criminal action charges for allegedly shooting Ralph Yarl this past April. Oregon will provide the first gray wolves this winter for Colorado’s voter-mandated reintroduction of the species, state wildlife officials announced Friday.Up to 10 wolves will be supplied by the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife over the winter.
