For the second straight game, Anthony Santander — who before this series had never played first base in the major leagues — started at first, while Ryan Mountcastle did not play in the field for the second day in a row. Before the game, manager Brandon Hyde said he was simply giving the 6-foot-3 power hitter a rest. “I’m sure he’ll be in the game at some point,” Hyde said Tuesday afternoon.Mountcastle not only got into the game Tuesday night, he tallied six bases in his two plate appearances, including a 433-foot, two-run home run in the sixth inning that gave the Orioles a 7-3 lead they would not relinquish. That marked the second homer from a Ryan hitting in the No. 9 spot for Baltimore as lefty Ryan O’Hearn went deep in the second inning. Once Angels right-hander Chase Silseth was replaced by a lefty in the fourth, Mountcastle entered the game and left his mark. With the win in front of an announced crowd of 13,244, the Orioles improved to 2...Democratic primary for Philadelphia mayor becomes tight contest between 2 of 5 front-runners

A tight race to lead the nation’s sixth-largest city was unfolding in Philadelphia on Tuesday as voters navigated a crowded field of Democratic candidates in a contest that centered on how to combat gun violence and quality-of-life issues that make people feel unsafe.Former city council member Cherelle Parker and former city controller Rebecca Rhynhart were in a close contest as early votes were counted. The city was just beginning to count in-person ballots that were cast on Tuesday, which could sway the results. The Philadelphia race serves as the latest barometer of how residents of some of the nation’s largest cities hope to emerge from the pandemic, which heightened concerns about crime, poverty and inequality. The results have sometimes been tumultuous in other parts of the country, leading to the defeat of the incumbent mayor of Chicago in February and the ouster of San Francisco’s district attorney last year.Philadelphia voters will choose between front-runner candidates incl...Small businesses out hundreds of dollars after GTA event company files for bankruptcy

Small business owners say they’re out hundreds and, in some cases, thousands of dollars after local events company Elevated Society Market canceled their upcoming marketplaces and filed for bankruptcy. It comes just days after several business owners came forward to share their experiences with the company.“With the May markets and July market that I had already paid for, I’m out 800 dollars,” said one small business owner, who did not want her name publicly shared. She said she is one of dozens of vendors who paid fees to secure spots at various pop-up marketplaces organized by Elevated Society Market, only to find out through an automated email from ESM that they were filing for bankruptcy.CityNews received that same email when we reached out for comment.“Effective immediately all markets and venues are canceled. We have started the process of [filing] for bankruptcy,” read the email. “All vendors who have paid a vendor fee for future markets will be included in the bankruptcy...Republican wins state House special election in central Pennsylvania; GOP 1 seat away from control

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Republican Michael Stender on Tuesday won a special election for a vacant central Pennsylvania seat in the state House of Representatives, a GOP hold that means majority control of the chamber will be decided by a second special election, in the Philadelphia suburbs.Stender, a Shikellamy school board member, firefighter and former EMT, was endorsed by former Rep. Lynda Schlegel Culver, the Republican who represented the district before winning a state Senate special election earlier this year. Stender beat Democrat Trevor Finn, a Montour County commissioner. The district also includes part of Northumberland County.Stender’s win gives Republicans 101 seats, one less than the minimum needed to control the agenda in the 203-member House chamber. The Associated Press has not called the second special election, in Delaware County. If Republicans retake the House, freshman Democratic Gov. Josh Shapiro will have no chamber to aid his agenda going into the final month ...More than a dozen people, 3 dogs rescued from apartment fire in downtown Portland, Oregon

WASHINGTON (AP) — Bungled applications to eavesdrop on a former aide of then-candidate Donald Trump. Flawed research by a former British spy tasked with a sensitive, and political, assignment. And an FBI scrambling against the election-season clock to untangle suspicions about foreign government collusion that it feared could have grave national security implications.A 306-page report by Justice Department special counsel John Durham is refocusing negative attention on one of the most politically significant investigations in FBI history: the probe into whether Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign was conspiring with Russia to tip the outcome of the election. The findings aren’t flattering for the FBI, with Durham asserting that it rushed into the investigation without an adequate basis and routinely ignored or rationalized evidence that undercut its premise. The report catalogs a series of errors — though many were already documented years ago by a separate Justice Departm...Child dead, 23 people missing after hippopotamus capsizes canoe on river in Malawi

She said locals told her hippos often caused problems in the area and they wanted authorities to relocate some of the animals.___More AP Africa news: https://apnews.com/hub/africaGregory Gondwe...2 juveniles shot outside Chicago Public Library in Garfield Park
