Challenging a climate argumentEfforts by St. Paul City Council Member Mitra Jalali to rationalize ripping up Summit Avenue and devastating its canopy of mature trees do not withstand factual scrutiny. Jalali claimed in an interview with Pioneer Press on Oct. 25 that opposition to the plan “denies our climate crisis.” But, she ignores the fact that hundreds of mature trees would be cut down to make way for the project. Each of those trees absorbs 48 pounds of carbon dioxide a year and releases oxygen in exchange, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Cutting down those trees and adding more paving adds to our climate crisis. Leaving the trees in place to thrive is a positive step toward reducing our climate crisis.Taking account of Minnesota winters and weather, the elevated bike lanes will take little or no auto-commute traffic off the roads. Public transit holds the best hope of reducing auto traffic here.Jalali claimed that opposition “neglects our infrastructure.” Ther...Eyedrops from Target, CVS and others carry possible infection risk, FDA says

WASHINGTON — U.S. health regulators are warning consumers not to use more than two dozen varieties of over-the-counter eyedrops because of the risk of infections that could lead to blindness. The Food and Drug Administration advisory applies to lubricating drops sold by six companies, including CVS Health, Target, Rite Aid and Cardinal Health. The FDA did not disclose the location of the factory or when it was inspected. No injuries related to the products had been reported at the time of the announcement, but the FDA encouraged doctors and patients to submit cases through the agency’s online reporting system.Earlier this year, federal officials linked an outbreak of...Mohonasen Marching Band wins SS3 state championship

CLAYTON, Mo. – St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Wesley Bell is changing the seat he is running for. He is dropping his run for Senate and now running for US Congress. He will be vying for Cori Bush's US congressional seat. The Democratic primary for that race is in August 2024.“Over the last several weeks, as I’ve campaigned around the state, I’ve heard one refrain from Democrats above all else: yes, we need you in Washington, but St. Louis needs you in the House of Representatives," states Bell. “So, after thoughtful consideration and consultation with respected and committed community and political leaders, I am formally withdrawing as a candidate for the U.S. Senate, and announcing my candidacy for the Democratic nomination to US House of Representatives for Missouri’s First Congressional District.”Bell would have faced Democrat Lucas Kunce and others in a primary race for the state's US Senate seat currently held by Republican Josh Hawley. As faith leaders, colleagues, and friends who come from different traditions, we share diverse perspectives on the State of Israel and the plight of the Palestinian people. We are alarmed by the continuing violence and the ongoing war Israel is waging on Hamas due to their despicable attacks on innocent people on Oct. 7.We are deeply concerned about the conflict’s continued impact on Gaza, the West Bank and further escalation throughout the region. People we care about are in harm’s way. Loved ones have been killed. We grieve the unprecedented loss of life. We pray for a swift resolution to the conflict, the release of all hostages and the creation of a process wherein Palestinians and Israelis can live side by side in harmony. We are also very concerned about how the war in Israel and Palestine has impacted members of our own Muslim and Jewish communities here in Colorado — and, indeed, throughout the world. The documented rise in anti-Semitic and anti-Muslim rhetoric a...Latest news
